Let’s start with the top three choices.

Top 3 picks

Best Pour Over Kettles With A Thermometer

Gooseneck kettles are a necessity for any pour-over method of preparing your coffee, and they will also upscale your tea-making experience.

Having one with a built-in thermometer makes the whole process go smoother.

Oxo On – Finest Oxo Gooseneck Kettle

The Oxo company is famous for its hi-tech and long-lasting home appliances, and this pour-over kettle is no exception.

Oxo On uses 1500 W to heat the water faster than any other kettle on the list – a little over 4 minutes.

That’s pretty amazing, especially considering the capacity (33.8 oz).

After the water reaches the desired temperature, this kettle will hold that temperature for 30 minutes, which is a lifesaving feature.

You can find a temperature guide written on the kettle base and use a handy dial to finely adjust your temperature in 1-degree increments.

The lid and handle are made of heat-resistant silicone. This is one of the best ergonomic handles for precise pouring, and your pour-over methods will be better.

An inbuilt timer will help you be more precise with your brewing, and safety features will automatically shut the kettle after 30 minutes of standby.

Oxo company is also a member of 1% for the planet, a network of companies that donate at least 1% of their profit to environmental issues.

Bonavita 1.7-Liter Digital Gooseneck Kettle – Best Large Kettle

The large-capacity kettle doesn’t have to come with basic features only, and Bonavita has a model to prove that point.

Bonavita gooseneck kettle is highly precise, and you can adjust the temperature by one degree, anywhere between 140 and 212 F.

If you want, you can retain the desired temperature for up to an hour. You can see the current temperature on a small display. The display also serves as a timer for the brewing process.

You only need 3-4 minutes to boil the full water capacity, thanks to the 1500 W this stainless steel beauty uses.

You should also bear in mind that this kettle isn’t light, as stainless steel is heavy.

A kettle full of water weighs around 6-7 pounds.

Be careful.

“Approximately every minute, someone in the United States sustains a burn injury serious enough to require treatment.” as this ABA research claims. Really, be careful.

Fellow Stagg EKG – Most Elegant Pour Over Kettle

There is something in Fellow design that gives out that elegant vibe and this graceful kettle is the perfect example.

Fellow Stagg EKG is a perfect mixture of elegance and usefulness.

The sleek stainless steel body holds up to 30.4 oz, and it takes around 4 minutes to boil the water. The handy Hold option retains the desired temperature for up to 60 minutes.

The cute round screen shows the temperature in Fahrenheit and Celsius and serves as a timer for your brew. The round dial serves to precisely adjust the temperature (one-degree precision) and as a button to start/stop the timer.

The weighted handle is a selling point of Fellow Stagg EKG. It makes the kettle perfectly balanced, and your water flows precisely where you want it to.

As a bonus, you can even play games on this kettle!

Well, one game.

This article explains how to play Wormy on your Fellow Stagg kettle.

Bonavita 1L Kettle – Compact And Modern

Those who want all the good sides of a Bonavita kettle, but in a smaller package, have a look at this model.

Bonavita 33.8 oz gooseneck kettle is a more compact version of a larger 57.4 oz model but with the same advanced options.

This model uses 1000 W instead of 1500 W but boils water faster due to its smaller capacity. You can adjust your temperature from 140 to 212 F. You can also use one of the five preset temperatures (140, 176, 185, 190, 205, and 208 °F).

Smaller capacity is the only difference between the models. The same quality stainless steel was used, combined with BPA-free plastic for the lid and the handle.

Bonavita 33.8 oz retains water temperature for up to an hour. This model is more practical for smaller households or not-so-frequent coffee drinkers.

Best Hi-Tech Pour Over Kettles

I love it when my gadgets are packed with extra features to brew my coffee or tea more precisely. These two next come with a set of handy options.

Mecity – Most Advanced Coffee Kettle For Pour Over Coffee

If you always wanted a compact hi-tech kettle, your search is over.

The Mecity gooseneck kettle is so precise that you can adjust the water temperature by 1 degree, ranging from 100 to 212 F.

The base has a display where you can see the temperature, buttons for adjusting, an on/off switch, and a button for timer mode.

At full capacity (27 oz), this kettle needs around 5 minutes to boil the water, and it will switch off automatically. You can also choose to keep your water warm at the desired temperature. However, this feature is limited to 200 F, for safety reasons.

Like most of the best gooseneck kettles, the Mecity kettle is also made from 304 stainless steel, which makes it a durable and elegant solution for all your water-heating needs.

In the user manual, Mecity reminds us that the boiling point of water depends on the altitude, aka elevation above sea level. You can find a handy sheet for different boiling temperatures to varying altitudes in this EngineeringToolBox article.

COSORI Kettle – Best Electric Gooseneck Kettle For Tea

If you are a tea lover who doesn’t say no to top-quality coffee, I have a kettle specialized for tea-making.

COSORI gooseneck kettle comes with five preset temperature options, for white, green, black, and oolong tea, and a 205 F for coffee.

When the water reaches the desired temperature, you will hear three beeps, and you can turn them off if you wish.

Hold temperature is an additional option that keeps the water at your desired temperature by up to an hour, with a tolerance of ±5 F.

The kettle is built from 304 stainless steel, which means it’s highly durable. The elegant black design makes this device a perfect gift for any coffee or tea connoisseur.

27 oz is quite enough capacity, and the full kettle boils in around 5 minutes, which is an industry-standard.

Best Gooseneck Kettles Without A Thermometer

A built-in thermometer is handy, but it certainly adds to the price. If you are on a tight budget, here are two kettles that won’t ruin it.

DmofwHi Kettle – Best One For Beginners

Simple and reliable, this budget-buy kettle will do its job flawlessly, and won’t cost an arm and a leg.

DmofwHi gooseneck electric kettle will boil your water in five minutes and has a 33.8 oz capacity, which is enough for most tasks.

Low price and simple usage make DmofwHi kettle a great first kettle for the beginning of your coffee journey.

The interior is made from stainless steel 304, and all plastic parts are BPA-free. Due to the one-layer build, the kettle body can heat up, so you should only touch the handle.

Hario Buono – Best Small-Capacity Kettle

If you need a one-person simple kettle, this is the right choice.

This Hario Buono model has a 27 oz capacity, which ensures quick heating. Your water will boil in around 5 minutes. You can even boil only one cup if you wish.

This model is also known as the V60 kettle because it goes so well with the standard V60 drip coffee maker – one of the things Japanese coffee culture brought to the rest of the world.

The stainless steel body and polypropylene parts ensure durability, while the slick Japanese design makes this kettle a stylish add-on to any kitchen. A short power cable fits flawlessly into the bottom of the base.

And now, let’s see some info to help you choose your perfect kettle.

Gooseneck Kettle VS Regular One: Which One Do You Need?

Gooseneck kettles are used for pour-over methods, like Chemex, V60, and such. If you need a vessel to boil water, you are better with just a regular kettle.

However, if you can, I advise you to buy a gooseneck.

It will upscale your coffee brewing, and make any pour-over coffee taste better.

Gooseneck Kettle VS Regular: Reddit Point Of View

Reddit is a decent source of information if you know what to look for and which subreddits to visit.

The main coffee subreddit is one of those places, and most members share my point of view: if you are interested in coffee brewing, get a gooseneck kettle.

Which one? Everybody has their favorites, but OXO, Fellow, Hario, and Buono are the brands you will often find mentioned on this subreddit.

What Distinguishes One Gooseneck Kettle From Another?

To an untrained eye, all goosenecks look the same, and the price difference sounds like a scam. However, these are the things you need to consider.

Electric Or Stovetop?

Stovetop kettles require an outside source of heat, aka stovetop. Electric gooseneck kettles come with a base that serves as a heating source. That automatically adds to the price.

Stovetop kettles are easier to transport and set aside when you don’t use them. However, electric ones are much easier to use.

What Materials Is Your Kettle Made Of?

Most electric gooseneck kettles are made from food-grade 304 stainless steel. Steel is durable, holds temperature effectively, and has an elegant look.

Aluminum is a lightweight, but not-so-durable material for kettles. Positive for your camping trip, but otherwise, I would avoid it.

Ceramics and glass kettles add a dash of elegance to your kitchen, but they probably won’t survive the first fall.

Copper gooseneck kettles retain heat even better than steel, but require regular polishing.

Is Your Gooseneck Kettle Top Quality?

Most gooseneck kettles look similar, especially to an untrained eye. That’s why the market is sometimes flooded with cheap or shady products.

To save yourself the hassle of returning a low-quality product, you should always buy from renowned companies. Goosenecks are a niche market, and you can’t go wrong with any of the renowned names I mentioned in the article.

Capacity

Most gooseneck kettles can hold around 33.8 oz of water. However, much larger (and smaller) models exist.

I find smaller gooseneck kettles much easier to use and control the flow. However, buying a large-capacity kettle makes more sense if you make coffee (or tea) for more people.

Why Are Gooseneck Kettles Better Than Regular Ones?

In pour-over methods of making coffee, it is of utmost importance where your water flows, how strong the flow is, and is the coffee equally saturated.

“Pouring way too fast can dig a hollow in the coffee bed and lead to clogging a filter, or to an unevenly extracted and astringent brew.” – says Jgagneastro in his scientific article – The Physics Of Kettle Stream.

Gooseneck kettles have a long neck that ends with a sharp beak. The neck slows down the water flow and makes it more controllable by tilting your kettle. Sharp beak directs the water flow in just the place you wanted.

Regular kettles have a short beak, and you cannot control where and how fast the hot water goes. Thus, you will usually end up with unequally saturated coffee.

Even if you manage to extract the coffee properly, there is no guarantee you will be able to replicate the results, as regular kettles offer almost zero control.

3 Reasons Why These Kettles Are More Expensive

Gooseneck kettles are more expensive than the average ones. We can all agree on that. Here are three reasons why you pay more for your gooseneck than your average kettle.

They Are A Niche Product

Gooseneck kettles are explicitly used for pour-over coffee and fine tea. Hence, the average Joe doesn’t need them, and even the usual coffee shop doesn’t need them.

So, they have relatively low demand on the market, and fewer companies produce them, which significantly raises the price.

They Use More Expensive Materials

Your average dollar-store kettle is made from cheap plastic.

Gooseneck kettles are usually made from 304 steel, which “… is a naturally flavor neutral material that won’t affect the flavor of your beverage or retain flavors from previous uses.” – says this handy article from LuvMuggs.

Other materials, like copper, glass, or high-class ceramics, are also not cheap, which automatically raises the price.

They Have More Features

Your basic kettle for boiling water usually only has auto turn-off, and that’s all, folks.

The best gooseneck kettles on the market come with precise temperature control, temperature hold, safety switches, timer for brewing, and such.

Some of the ordinary kettles also have those features, but their price is significantly higher. Basic gooseneck kettles don’t even cost that much, as you can see in the article.
