By Jozo Salmanić – Croatian barista with 15 years of experience.

You’ve seen them already in airports, busy coffee shops, and similar high-traffic places.

This guide will show you the best of the best machines, so you can easily pick one for your premise.

The second part is for smaller coffee makers and handy info.

My Top 3

Three superautomatic machines that excel in their respective categories.

7 Top Class Super Automatic Commercial Espresso Machines

Not every premise has the same need or budget for these machines.

That’s why I will show you the seven best picks in different categories, and you can choose the one that fits your frame.

Jura Giga W3 – Best Automatic Espresso Machine For Your Office

Not all office espresso machines have limited features.

Jura Giga W3 is the best example of that.

This model has significant value for money. Especially when you know it has ceramic flat burrs, which you can electronically adjust.

Your office staff can choose between 43 different drinks, and you can adjust each one to your taste.

The built-in water reservoir is massive, but no milk storage tank. You have to connect the machine to a milk container of your choice. Annoying, but not a deal-breaker.

No touchscreen this time, just a classical screen. You choose drinks using a small rotary switch on the top. Eight more buttons are there for navigating the simple menu.

Cleaning, maintenance? Everything is at the touch of a button, so your coffee will always come out perfect from this machine.

A removable decent-sized hopper is firm, and the lid keeps the beans fresh.

Do you want this coffee maker for your restaurant? You can’t, as it is not NSF-approved. Besides, it performs best when you make up to 120 coffees every day.

Jura Giga W3 is a top-class espresso maker for offices, waiting rooms, and small events.

Rancilio Egro One – Most Versatile Automatic Coffee Machine For Commercial Use

This sleek Italian beauty is the market’s top-of-the-top. Rancilio Egro One will blow your mind with its features.

It might also blow your budget, but you will get what you paid for.

Rancilio Egro One is everything that your busy coffee shop needs. In this case, a higher price is perfectly justified.

Over 200 cups of espresso every day? No problem with a double boiler system and ditting grinders.

The touch screen is a standard feature for this machine type, and you even have a USB port for adding media.

Hoppers hold 1.4 lb each – great.

This machine comes with a steep learning curve. Why? Well, everything is programmable and adjustable. But once you get the hang of it, you will enjoy the freedom of adjusting the drinks.

The iSteam wand is also programmable. That means no overheating and more freedom in making cappuccinos and lattes.

I was surprised by how silent this machine is, especially considering its size and weight. It won’t ruin your vibe, even in the morning.

It is the most versatile machine on this list – 48 different drinks.

Jura Giga X8 – Best Multi-Purpose Bean To Cup Coffee Machine For Commercial Use

This Swiss espresso machine is efficient, simple, and aesthetically perfect.

Everything that we expect of Jura products.

This machine is best for offices, seminars, or similar events. You can also use it in your small-to-medium coffee shop.

Jura Giga X8 uses ceramic flat burrs to secure a consistent grind every time. The A. G. A. system electronically adjusts grind size.

You can easily order classic espresso drinks, milk, or hot water for your tea using a small display. Every temperature, grind size, and brew strength is programmable and easy to adjust.

Two hopper baskets can hold A LOT fresh beans each, definitely more than enough for your everyday needs.

Giga X8 was meant to make up to 200 cups of coffee every day.

The cleaning and maintenance are also fully automatic, as you would expect of top-class machines. The drip tray is dishwasher safe, so you have no worries.

Rancilio Egro Zero – Best Commercial Espresso Machine For Small Coffee Shop

Small, but powerful, this espresso maker is easy to use and will be a centerpiece of your small coffee shop.

Touchscreens became standard equipment for automatic espresso machines, and Rancilio Egro Zero is not an exception. You can choose between 16 programmable drinks, and you can also use hot water and steam.

There is also a USB port for managing the machine and adjusting the drink parameters. As for the cleaning, the process is 100% automatic – it takes only 6 minutes every day. Don’t worry, the machine will remind you when it’s time to be cleaned.

This espresso maker comes in two variations: Pure Coffee and Silk Milk. Pure Coffee has a manual steam wand, while Silk Milk makes lattes and cappuccinos automatically.

Just like Egro One, Zero also has dual Ditting grinders, which will perfectly grind every single bean. Both bean hoppers are removable and have a 2.2 – pound capacity.

Thanks to the manual chute, Rancilio Egro Zero can also use pre-ground coffee, if you wish.

Rancilio Egro Zero produces up to 100 cups of coffee per day. That makes it the best choice for small coffee shops and bakeries.

Astra A2000 – Easiest Fully Automatic Commercial Espresso Machine To Work With

This US-made espresso maker looks retro but has all the modern features you need.

Astra 2000-1 was designed by an aerospace engineer, and that’s why usability beats aesthetics.

Hoppers can take 2.2 lb of fresh beans each, and the grinding process is surprisingly silent for a machine this large.

If you need a simple, yet reliable espresso maker for your coffee shop, Astra A2000-1 is a machine worth considering.

I enjoyed using the steam wand as it self-regulates and automatically turns off after the milk reaches the desired temperature.

It can make 180 cups per hour, although I doubt you will ever need that much. You have 13 programmable functions and seven different drinks. This machine makes everything from 2 oz espressos to 10 oz lattes.

Astra A2000 doesn’t have a steep learning curve.

It’s one of the easiest automatic espresso machines to use, maintain and educate staff. That makes up for the unusual design.

La Cimbali S30 CP 10 – Best Super Automatic Commercial Espresso Machine For Restaurants And Busy Coffee Shops

This beautiful Italian espresso machine won the Red Dot Award for Product Design in 2016.

But let’s talk about what La Cimbali S30 CP 10 can do.

It can make cold milk foam, a system that makes microfoam from milk, or plant-based milk. This makes the number of drinks available even wider.

My favorite feature is PGS – Perfect Grinding System. It ensures every dosage will be precisely measured and ground.

La Cimbali S30 CP10 is the perfect choice for busy coffee shops and restaurants.

The wide menu, simple UI, and self-cleaning options won my heart.

For the remote customization and control of this machine, you can use the CUP4YOU app. No more waiting for technicians.

This machine makes up to 300 cups every day, thanks to a self-adjusting grinder with titanium-coated burrs and two hoppers that can take 2.2 lb each.

A smart boiler system ensures you will never run out of hot water, even on the busiest day.

You can customize the tempered glass touchscreen to play helpful videos, live news feeds, and even branded messages.

The screen is two times larger than the one in Jura Giga 8.

Bunn 44400.0100 Sure Immersion – Budget-Friendly Commercial Coffee Machine

This all-American coffee maker is ready for any challenge you put him up to.

Its full name is Bunn 44400.0100 Sure Immersion Black Single Cup Coffee Brewer. The name is hard to memorize, but the performance is quite memorable.

Technically, it is not an espresso maker, but a filter coffee machine. Perfect if your customers prefer traditional 8 oz cups of coffee.

A large touchscreen is practical for everything, from choosing your coffee drink to playing promo videos. La Cimbali S30 CP 10 has a similar feature and screen size.

Five portion sizes are available – from 6 oz to 64 oz. The dispensing area is spacious, so you can put most of the standard-sized carafes there for your morning jug of Joe.

Like all Bunn products (grinders included), this one is also rectangular, made of stainless steel, and built to survive a nuclear disaster or decades of everyday use.

Two 3 lb hoppers ensure you won’t have to refill often, and you can serve different beans.

You can also serve iced drinks, a unique feature for most automatic coffee makers.

You can make 50 cups of standard-sized (8 oz) coffee per hour with this machine, and you connect it directly to the plumbing system, so you can’t run out of water.

If you want a durable, reliable, and US-made coffee maker for your restaurant, coffee shop, or large office, Bunn 44400.0100 is your best choice.

These seven super-automatic coffee makers are top-performance, and there is no wrong choice.

However, more features and more capacity mean a higher price tag.

That’s why I found three machines more suitable for smaller offices, homes or tighter budgets.

3 Small Super Automatic Coffee Makers For Your Home

Super-automatic coffee makers can cost like a decent family car.

Paying that price to have your daily espresso or two isn’t justified.

Luckily, smaller home-line automatic machines exist, and you won’t even notice the difference, but your wallet will.

Miele CM 5310 – Best Simple Super Automatic Coffee Maker For Households And Small Offices

The motto of the Miele company is “Always better,” and this cube-shaped espresso maker is better than most competitors.

Miele CM 5310 doesn’t have a famous Italian design. Instead, it boasts German efficiency.

Hence, no touchscreen, and no smartphone apps. Just plain old buttons, which function perfectly.

The conical burr grinder is surprisingly quiet, and you have five different settings to choose from. The settings are hidden behind the service door, which is unusual.

You can also use pre-ground coffee, but one dose at a time.

As for the milk, you need to connect the standard plastic tube to your milk container, and your job is done. The machine automatically makes the super-consistent foam.

Almost all parts are dishwasher-safe, and the milk pipe is cleaned automatically. It’s recommended only to use cow’s milk. If you are a fan of plant-based ones, you will need a separate frother.

Miele CM 5310 makes nine different drinks. You can even make a pot of coffee, which is great for bigger households or smaller offices.

Descaling is the only manual part of the cleaning you have to do. Everything else is fully automatic, which makes your life easier.

Simple use, automatic cleaning, and an option to make a pot of coffee make Miele CM 5310 a top choice for larger households and smaller offices.

Gaggia Magenta – Best Entry-Level Home Super-Automatic Espresso Maker

Italians are masters of espresso, and this little Italian black box will help you master it, too.

Gaggia Magenta can make 11 different drinks, from ristretto to cortado. There is no steam wand. Instead, you have a detachable milk carafe.

When you need your cafe latte or cappuccino, pull out the carafe from the fridge, pour fresh milk inside, attach it to the machine and press the button.

Ceramic burr grinders ensure the perfect grind for your espresso, and you can even use pre-ground coffee, thanks to a small bypass on the top.

Magenta also has a cup riser, so you don’t spill even a drop of your coffee, and you can fill even travel-size cups.

The full-color display is intuitive and easy to use. You can choose your drink, adjust its parameters or start a cleaning process, with just a touch of a button.

Gaggia Magenta Prestige is a budget-friendly super-automatic espresso machine that will perfectly fit in your kitchen.

Jura Ena 8 – Best High-End Home Automatic Coffee Maker

This high-end espresso machine is packed with features.

Jura Ena 8 sacrificed the hopper and tank size to be more compact. No milk container either.

The touchscreen is here, and you can choose a one-touch option to pick the drink with the desired ratio of coffee and milk.

You have a convenient (and self-cleaning) siphon tube for milk drinks, and you can use all the milk varieties you want.

The Aroma G3 conical grinder is much faster and quieter than the machines in this class. Of course, you also have a bypass dozer for your favorite pre-ground coffee.

With Jura Ena 8, the (bit) higher price is justified.

One touch of the button will get you a perfect espresso every time, and you won’t get better milk frothing anywhere else.

All eight espresso drinks are adjustable without limits. Water temperature, grind size, coffee strength… and you can use the J.O.E. app or the touchscreen.

The Apple tribe can even get the app on their Apple watch, and you can even use Siri for voice orders. Amazing!

Now let’s get you some info.

How To Choose A Super-Automatic Commercial Espresso Machine?

Buying a commercial coffee maker can be a heavy investment, and the wrong choice can be pricey.

Here is how to make the right choice.

How Much Are You Willing To Spend?

There is no need to sugarcoat anything.

More money will give you more durable coffee machines with more bells and whistles.

John Moretti from BaristaJoy said it nicely – “Expensive espresso machines are equipped with significantly more features than cheap machines and have a host of more functions and capabilities as well.”

However, perhaps you don’t need all the high-end options. In that case, there is a wide range of machines for every budget.

The final price will depend on all the other factors from this list.

Water Supply

Do you need a machine with an in-built reservoir, or do you plan to connect to the water main?

Some espresso makers even give you both choices, which, of course, costs extra.

Machine Options

Pick a machine for the workload you have, not the one you want.

Sometimes simplicity is better, especially if you start your coffee business from scratch.

When you have a steady flow of caffeine addicts, you can always get a better machine.

User-Friendliness

Having extra features on your espresso maker can be interesting.

However, if the machine is hard to operate, you will lose money.

Hence, super-automatics tend to be a better choice at first.

Before buying a commercial espresso machine, you should always consult your baristas and hear their opinion.

One-Step Or Two-Step Machine?

The one-step machine does all the work for you, including frothing the milk for milk-based drinks.

With two-step machines, you use a steam wand to froth milk.

The choice depends on the type of drinks you serve, the barista’s skills, and the quality of your chosen machine.

High-end one-step espresso makers will produce better milk drinks than mediocre baristas.

But again, with two-step machines, you can use different milk types.

That helps if you have customers who can’t or choose not to drink cow’s milk. “Experts estimate that about 68 percent of the world’s population has lactose malabsorption.” – says the NIDDK research.

How Much Coffee Will You Make?

Huge offices don’t need one omnipotent coffee maker. They need a few smaller ones so everybody can get their coffee.

Smaller offices can even use a home-line machine, depending on the number of people.

Your busy coffee shop needs a machine that can stay on the top of the morning coffee stampede. The more coffee you make, the more money you make.

As stated in the StartMyCoffeeShop article, in average, coffee shops sell 200 to 300 coffee every day.

Get a machine that can make that much.

Restaurants, hotel lobbies, bakeries, and similar premises can use higher-end home machines or entry-level commercial ones.

Again, it depends on the number of people drinking the coffee.

What Kind Of Coffee Will You Make?

Automatic espresso makers offer a similar range of drinks, more or less.

However, if you need a coffee maker for your diner, it would be nice to have an option for a jug of coffee. Bakeries should offer lattes and cappuccinos.

Office workers mostly drink drip coffee and espressos, as noted in this Statista report.

Busy shops should strive to offer as many different drinks as they can.

Can You Find The Best Super Automatic Espresso Machine Under $1000?

Automatic espresso makers come at a high price.

This article from BeanPoet concludes that, among other reasons, “manufacturers have to set higher prices to account for the relatively low sales volume.”

So, finding a top machine for heavy commercial use under $1000 is virtually impossible.

However, that money can get you some of the best home-line automatic espresso makers, which could be enough for smaller premises.
