Coffee Vs Tea Statistics in the U.S

On one side, we have coffee: the strong, delicious drink that also boosts your energy when all you wanted was to sleep a bit more!

On the other side, we have tea: a versatile beverage that is also good for you!

Which one is more popular in America?

Tea Might be More Popular in the U.S…

Although coffee drinkers like to talk about the beverage more overtly, statistics show that tea is more popular overall, and not just on the UK.

In 2021, Americans drank nearly 85 billion cups of tea, or more than 3.9 billion gallons.

Approximately 84% of all tea consumed was black tea, 15% was green tea, and the remainder was oolong, white, and dark tea.

… But Coffee Is Starting to Pick Up Steam!

Coffee isn’t too far behind. Americans consumed an estimated 3.3 billion pounds of coffee between2019/2020.

The consumption of coffee is increasing each year.

Coffee is now consumed by 66% of Americans every day, and US coffee consumption has increased by nearly 14% since January 2021; the largest increase since NCA(National Coffee Association of U.S.A) began tracking data.

The conclusion is that Americans usually drink both beverages, but perhaps because tea isn’t as strong as coffee, it might be easier to chug.

Tea Consumption Health Facts

Tea is considered healthier by many, because there are lots of different plants that can be boiled to make this drink.

The benefits of tea vary a lot from one tea to another, amount of the plant used and length of time the tea had to steep.

Tea Gives You Long-term Energy

But when speaking of the most common teas (black tea, green tea, etc), they also offer caffeine, but unlike coffee, tea has L-theanine, a chemical that metabolizes caffeine over a longer period of time.

Tea might provide more long-term energy and attention boost.

A study showed that students who drank both caffeine and L-theanine performed better than the ones who only drank caffeine.

Tea Helps Decrease Inflammation

Tea also helps immensely in decreasing inflammation in the body and easing pain, such as menstrual cramps (ginger tea for the win!).

Tea contains over 2,000 different components; minerals, elements, vitamins, and amino acids.

It also has anti-inflammatory components such as polyphenols and flavonoids.

Tea is a healthy, relaxing and versatile beverage that can also help you focus and maintain energy thorough the day.

So maybe we should all pair coffee with tea, after all!

CoffeeConsumption Health Facts

Wow!

I bet you didn’t see this one coming.

A few common antioxidants found in coffee are chlorogenic, ferulic, caffeic, and n-coumaric acids.

Caffeine is even considered an antioxidant by some experts.
